What’s Been Up With Me?

I’ve never been busier. I’ve started a second business with a partner.

This is a hosting service. The process has been long. Lots of investment in equipment and time. Much of my time now is going to implementing services, security, upgrades, and configuration — and much more.

We’ve accomplished forming the LLC, getting our business license, have rental space, have a number of servers. A big part of it is keeping track of all the tasks that need to be done such as setting everything up, tracking the work, and determining which of us can do what piece of the puzzle.

The office space has 2 1gb fiber runs. We are running another one that minimally will be double the fiber speed currently in place. The fiber providers are indicating that the area is capable of 10gb fiber to our building. Won’t that be nice.

Bear in min, we’re starting from scratch. That means putting all the infrastructure in place (router, switches, servers, backup units, control functionality, etc). Internally for instance we are going 10gb fiber. That means fiber switches and fiber lines, fiber cards and transceivers, etc. Each of the technologies behind these we are learning day in and day out.

Besides setting up the new business I’ve adopted a bunch of what we are learning in my current business. I purchased a Dell dual Xeon E5-2670 10 core CPU server with 256gb of RAM. I purchased a fiber managed switch along with fiber cards and transceivers for each computer. I’ve redone my router and set up VLANs on the managed switches instead of doing so on separate ports on the NICs.

Lots of exhausting work. Every day we are getting closer to opening.

There have been other things too. Car then truck issues, power outages, exhaustion, the holidays, the pandemic, etc., are but a few.

So there I stand if you were even wondering.
